The Beguiled is Coppola’s bloodiest, most visceral movie to date, and it is also one of her best.

The 1971 version of The Beguiled was blunt and overheated and a little bit nuts. The 2017 edition is more sophisticated and nuanced — but it’s still a little bit nuts.

Excellent movie. The acting, direction, and costuming were astounding. You have to allow yourself to become absorbed in the mood to appreciate it and not expect to be dazzled every second like most movies for the attention deficit. Both of us loved it.
