Dark, Psychologically disturbing movie. Good acting of the cast. Must watch.

I have always been a big fan of horror films and this wonderfully sinister yet heartfelt story is a prime example of how psychological horror beats blood and guts every time. Not that I don't like gruesome films, I love them but apart from the odd film making me cringe they never scare me or creep me out. Then along comes this innocent looking story, *monster in the closet* type thing. Seen it all before ... OR SO YOU THINK ... ! It's very clever and very creepy, relying on atmosphere, suspense that never lets up and a story that you can really relate to. Is the monster real or is it just the hallucination of a desperate mum and an emotionally starved child ? The cinematography is superb, shadows in every corner of the house, creaking floorboards and noises in the dark adding to the tension. If you do not like horror films that play with you mind, that have you imagining noises in the dark and movement in the shadows then it would be wise not to watch this movie. Or at least leave a few lights on afterwards ;-)

The Babadook is simply one of the greatest modern horror films of the time and one of the scariest films I have seen in decades. we have a moving story present here, with some truly frightening moments and a very clever metaphor going on here with the Babadook character. I won't get into it as much, to avoid spoiling anything, but, it pulled off a very clever double meaning with the character. Essie Davis gives one if he best performances I've seen in a long time, and the directing by Jennifer Kent is outstanding, what a real talent we have here. it's just so well shot and executed. I remember truly feeling terrified watching this film, with my nails digging into the arm rest and me literally on the edge of my seat. I really can't express how great The Babadook is and what it did for modern horror films here. one of the best horror films I've ever seen and definitely one of the most frightening.
