The Art of Happiness (2013)

Sergio driving a taxi in a white Naples overflowing sadness and garbage. Pouring rain leads her clients through the city trying to process the death of his brother, who started ten years earlier for Tibet and never returned. A pop singer, a recycler of fragments of life, a radio announcer, an old uncle, alternate seats on its bearing, each in its own way, a trace of his brother loved. Stubborn not to go over and get lost in an endless race, Sergio is overwhelmed by memories and the music produced in pairs with Alfredo, which in Buddhism and in its foundations had found the strength to cope with the disease. Those notes that he believed buried and laid to always return overbearing and demanding a soundboard that resonate and express his being sound. Putting his hand on the piano, Sergio Alfredo feel again, giving the past with the present and realizing itself in the feeling.

Saw this great little story a couple of days ago. I didn't know in the beginning that this was an anime. I was pleasently surprised by this little gem. Showing Napoli in a contemporary yet traditional way. You will fall in love with the characters and their contradictions. A new take on the Neapolitan life philosophy infused with a Buddist scent. I would definitely reccommend it.

A really heartwarming movie with a simple plot and even simpler message, but yet too underrated in our society. With an interesting character development and a real inspired voice acting, it's among my favourites animated movies, yet i can't give to it more than a 4 because of it's chaotic plot development and it's not always perfect animation, maybe a 3 1/2 would be even more appropriate, but i'm happy to give it an half star in more, for a movie that, in my heart, it's a 5 star experience.

A very confused and muddled way of looking at life I suppose -- and I guess this is what the main character struggles with and tries to vent out in his frustrations. I agree with a lot of the philosophy in the film, such as the samsara and karma oriental perspectives and how they were played out with some of the characters' dialogue, but however well drawn this Italian version of Waking Life is, there's a deep connection that is missed between all of the characters and especially ironically the two brothers, which lands a very flat note for the total overall experience. I wouldn't watch it again, but I'd gladly scratch it off my list of "semi forgotten art movies of 2013" at the Italian Film Festival I was at (In the current year).
