Classic. If you are in the mood best Basil film ever.

Of all mystery cliches, the mystery on a train is my favourite, that and a haunted house maybe, I was never the biggest fan of the Rathbone versions of Sherlock Holmes. They are very pulp, render Watson to a doofus and are usually extremely patriotic (Holmes was British !). Anyway, this is one of the better films Rathbone/Bruce made. The usual mix of sleuthing, screwball humour and film noir visuals. Highly recommended if you are a fan of Holmes or the classic whodunnit. The conclusion is a bit obvious though.

Great. I would have thought that 10 films in, Neill wouldn't really have anything else up his sleeve (especially since some of the later entries are particularly tired,) but this is a diamond in the rough. Set almost entirely on a train, the film has an odd hum, a rhythmic flow to it, with each scene punctuated by loud shots of the train hurtling through the night. The plot itself is solid, with the final gambit being a lot of fun. One complaint: Renee Godfrey's accent is one of the strangest things ever.

Rathbone and Bruce star as Sherlock Holmes and Watson, hired to prevent the theft of a diamond on a train. But when a murder is commited and the diamond disappears, Holmes finds himself having to deduce the murderer's identity among the passengers of the train. A good sleuth film among the best based on the character of Sherlock Holmes, with a good intriguing screenplay that does not lack witty dialogue, memorable performances and a good use of a claustrophobic atmosphere.

An OKAY Holmes flick, but not my favorite -- I always guess the wrong villain. Much like Charlie Chan movies, they are fun to watch and guess, even if you are wrong. I think I'll break out my old "Clue" or "Lie Detector" games. Colonel Mustard, with the candlestick, in the library.... Favorite Scene: The fight in the dining car with the lights out (near the end.) I kept thinking of some classic Stooges fights.
