The story of Elliot Tiber and his family, who inadvertently played a pivotal role in making the famed Woodstock Music and Arts Festival into the happening that it was. When Elliot hears that a neighboring town has pulled the permit on a hippie music festival, he calls the producers thinking he could drum up some much-needed business for his parents' run-down motel. Three weeks later, half a million people are on their way to his neighbor's farm in White Lake, New York, and Elliot finds himself swept up in a generation-defining experience that would change his life–and American culture–forever.

Much better than I expected it to be! The story of how Woodstock came to be for the townspeople in the area of the Catskills in NY. The story goes a bit all over the place but in the end it all comes together. Nice movie!!!

Leaves something to be desired for fans of the Woodstock festival or its music, but standing alone as an inspired work of fiction with Woodstock as a background, it works beautifully. Excellent writing, acting and story.

What an utterly unexpected delight to end 2009 on! Ang Lee's gentle but beautifully observed movie about how Max Yasgur's farm came to be used for 1969's festival of love and peace turned out to be a marvellous and hugely enjoyable surprise. Script and performances to die for (who would have thought Demetri Martin could act?) with dozens of clever nods to extracts from the original Woodstock film. Recommended all the way.

totally different for ang lee... a great subject matter with great music!!!! just a great feel good film....a definately worth watching and one for the dvd collection!!!!
