The story of Elliot Tiber and his family, who inadvertently played a pivotal role in making the famed Woodstock Music and Arts Festival into the happening that it was. When Elliot hears that a neighboring town has pulled the permit on a hippie music festival, he calls the producers thinking he could drum up some much-needed business for his parents' run-down motel. Three weeks later, half a million people are on their way to his neighbor's farm in White Lake, New York, and Elliot finds himself swept up in a generation-defining experience that would change his life–and American culture–forever.

It really helps if you've seen the Woodstock documentary as there is a lot of back reference to that as primary source material. A lot of fun.

What a great little film. Full of wonderful performances by faces you may recognize, but can't remember from what. Demetri Martin is anything but his usual stand-up persona as a young man fighting to keep his family's business above water while pining for the life he truly desires. Imelda Staunton is unrecognizable as his mother and after watching the film, I want to know where Henry Goodman (who plays his father with dignity and tenderness) has been all my movie-watching life. Leiv Schreiber is absolutely stunning and the rest of the cast, who make brief cameos throughout, round out another wonderful film from Ang Lee.

Great cast, great directoing, great film! Only one flaw for me, I have never been a fan of "acid trip scenes" which I guess I should have seen coming, but aside from that short moment feeling like an eternity to finish, I loved every(other) second

Fun movie! Might be a little disappointing for the people that are expecting to see the performances from famous bands. This is about the people who made this event possible. Really good movie.

About 100 minutes into the film, at the end of the festival, we see the hill littered with garbage and alone stand the US national flag in the mud. A requiem for a dream or a token of pride? Ang Lee's seemingly light-hearted and facile approach to the big music event resonates with the contemporary ethos and pathos: the peripheral may speak louder than the mainstream; personal "history" may be eventually written into the GRAND NARRATIVE of history and thus create a dialogue or even hetroglossia.
