Taipei Exchanges (2010)

Doris simply wanted to open a refined, stylish coffee shop in a bohemian Taipei neighborhood, but when she's stuck with a load of useless gifts from the opening celebration, her younger sister Josie turns the café into a burgeoning bartering business. There, even a soulful song (by Japanese singer Atari Kosuke in a cameo) is a tradable commodity. One day, a traveler brings in 35 soaps from around the world with a story for each of them, awakening Doris' imagination about the outside world that she has never seen.

exchange. alias of 'relationship' i think of me and brother me and parent me and city me and the world everything is just the same : bizarre so is the cafe, the character, you, and me dun drop your mouth when i leave for working as an unidentified illegal labourer in some unknown continent. i love stories, so i travel, move, change, snap, film, read, listen, watch, eat; then draw, write, tell, snap, film, dance, sing, cook. . .

I rate this movie 3.75 stars or perhaps 4 (I'm on the fence.) A Taiwanese made film, its a nice touching story that's well written and directed. In fact it the most Taiwanese I've heard in about 15 years but I think there were other dialects mixed in there ...too. Interestingly, one of the songs in the movie is Japanese (though the Japanese dude can't sing), and one I heard growing up. I think its called Furusato (Means: Home/Hometown). Acting was well done and the main actress is cute. I guess Taiwanese girls have a particular way about them that makes them different. If you're a guy, my advice from the movie would be..."slow and steady wins the race" and know some good stories to tell. I liked this movie and recommend it highly.

This film is a bit slow-paced but has a nice touch to it... It is well-directed, has a great cast, and the idea of having a cafe where people can exchange all kinds of items is rather unique. I like this movie.
