One of the best if not the best Israeli movie ever made. It is a universal theme in that children and adults clash and meet here in one of Israel's most problematic scenarios - the Kibbutz.

My friend Dror Shaul's ode to kibbutz life in the 1970's is psuedo-autobiographical and very poignant. He shows some of the good and a lot of the bad that took place during that time and in particular focuses in on one boy's experience and his troubled mother. Well worth watching to get to know more about Israel and kibbutz life. Won the Crystal Bear prize in Berlin and the Audience Award in Sundance 2006.

What a well-written movie! The director showed his creativity even within the first few seconds, with the display of the beginning film credits. Well, I guess they wouldn't have chosen a shabby film to open the SF Jewish Film Fest. It also won an award at Sundance. This Israeli film is mostly in Hebrew but also French and English. Dror Shaul brings spunk and creative wit to what otherwise could have been seemingly boring life on a kibbutz. The plotline is simple, but the characters are rich and well developed and the cinematography is excellent. He really humanizes the characters, which helps you relate even if their way of living and societal norms are completely foreign to you. The ending left me feeling a bit depressed, though it did give a hint of hope for the possibility of a cathartic ending to the story.

Siempre es grato ver lo que hacen en otros paÃses. Conocer su percepciÃ³n del mundo. Esta cinta, al menos para mÃ, es tan rica en su construcciÃ³n, adaptada en la tradiciÃ³n de estos Kipputz que personalmente no conocÃa y que parece ser como un experimento de sociedad utÃ³pica (comunista...el comunismo no existe) y lo que puede llegar a provocar. AdemÃ¡s, los personajes fueron exquisitamente bien dibujados y me parece grandioso el trabajo que Dror Shaul hizo con Tomer y su personaje...tan lleno de matices, tan enternecedor, tan lleno de luz en un mundo nublado. Una fotografÃa delicada, viva, hermosa y una historia que te parte en dos...cuando todos deciden callar el loco es el que habla y tiene la razÃ³n aunque para los demÃ¡s sea locura...... Gran cinta.
