Prancer (1989)

Jessica, the daughter of an impoverished apple farmer, still believes in Santa Claus. So when she comes across a reindeer with an injured leg, it makes perfect sense to her to assume that it is Prancer, who had fallen from a Christmas display in town. She hides the reindeer in her barn and feeds it cookies, until she can return it to Santa. Her father finds the reindeer and decides to sell it to the butcher, not for venison chops, but as an advertising display.

Harrell carries the film with an impressive performance for a child whose only previous experience was as a singing litterbug in a school play.

So Santa lost a reindeer? Thankfully a little girl's maternal instincts were enough to save Christmas. This is definitely for one for the little tikes to enjoy.

I saw this movie when it first came out in the theater. I think I was 10 years old and it was so heartbreaking, but it was a very cute movie

You know, Sam Elliott deserves to be given an award for not just how awesome he is in this movie, but how awesome he is peirod! I mean, you watch the scene where he talks to his daughter, Jessica, and resites the poem that her mother would say to her, and just TRY not to shed a tear. I dare you. I freaking dare you. I'ts impossible. This is a great movie, and well, Christmas wouldn't be the same without watching this movie.
