Deliberate camp (to paraphrase Susan Sontag) is never as successful as pure, or naive, camp.

I have to go all the way to tucson to see this homage to 70s sexploitation films at the loft cinemas. the art design and feel transformed you back to the 70s. It was a little funny in the beginning, but it dragged for awhile.

The results are visually exacting if ideologically muddled. Biller's trying to find ways to make the old misogyny usefully ironic. But the acting is so amateurish, partly by accident and partly by design, that the film remains confined to an exercise in replicative style.

Amazingly accurate recreaction of 1970s sexploitation...Anna Biller is a genius.

Eric Henderson 30 Apr 2008

Viva‘s intentionally flat performances and flatter double entendres...mercilessly satirize the Playboy mindset even as the film revels in the kitschiness of it all.
