.A good piece of british drama. This is the character study of a man who's a homeless criminal. It shows how various things that happened in his childhood etc psychologically damaged him and changed i'm into the protagonist in the film. It is based on a true story and is an upsetting film. There are some very violent scenes, but they are execrated well. There's a lot of black comedy in the way Stuart talks and the way he lives. Some of it is difficult to watch because you're not sure if you should laugh or cry. Tom Hardy puts on an excellent performance as Stuart, as does Benedict Cumberbatch who plays Alexander.

Tom Hardy eclipses all and everything. An exceptional performance from a young Mr. Hardy. He really is the greatest actor of my time as far as I'm concerned.

extremely moving and touching. bawled my eyes out. tom hardy and benedict cumberbatch is AMAZING here. its scary how tom hardy can transform into a whole different character. It's a study on the relationship between two human beings of different walks of life. As you watch, you can't help but feel an attachment for stuart.

A normal-looking Benedict, how nice! I was extremely pleased to see Benny playing a normal bloke for a change, but it's still a sad story, and it's true. I'd like to think of Stuart: A Life Backwards as a tragedy disguised as a comedy, 'cause it really is. At first, it seems like a perfectly harmless movie, with the cheerful music and funny drawings and all. And then, you slowly realize it's actually a very, very heartbreaking story about a boy, whose life had been nothing but unfortunate, and his friendship with this man who finds him interesting and would go as far as to write a biography or even a movie for him. Worst of all, it's all true. Stuart existed and died. Looking at Stuart's life backwards, that's the idea, isn't it? I really have to applaud Tom Hardy for his insanely good acting though as Stuart as I hardly recognized him.
