One of the most stunningly gorgeously astoundingly beautifully shot films of the year, for sure. Aside from the cinematography, Slow West provides a thrilling, darkly humorous and consistently engaging meander through the western genre, with welcome surrealist flourishes and some effortlessly excellent performances from McPhee and Fassbender. This is a film ostensibly about desperation, though it's crammed full of some excellent ideas, with Maclean even finding space in its breezy running time to (rather bizarrely) rant about the culture of celebrity and fame. A reinvented western that uses the tropes of the genre and makes them feel inexplicably renewed, Slow West is masterful, joyous, sporadically violent, often absurd and relentlessly admirable. One the best this year so far.

A bit slow moving but entertaining. Well acted by Kodi Smit-McPhee & Michael Fassbender in particular. Well photographed with striking New Zealand locations easily passing for the United States terrain of the story. One question: Was it really necessary to have Michael Fassbender smoking on camera through much of the film?!

Slow West biedt een poetische kijk op de laatste dagen van het wilde westen met formidabele karakterstructuur die gaat zoals je niet zou verwachten. Het had misschien wel wat hulp nodig gehad bij een beter einde, maar dat valt voor ieder ander anders uit te vinden. Zoals deze western maken ze er niet genoeg meer, en dat is doodzonde !
