Gripping though somewhat melodramatic, good character-actor types in action, very low budget used well.

Very good, tight melodrama that occasionally tries too hard for effect (although sometimes it totally works, like the black dude singing after the lynching).

As far as Westerns go, The Ox-Bow Incident is one of the best. Now granted, as a rule, I am not a fan of Westerns but this one is different. Henry Fonda is really outstanding in his role, as is everyone else. The story is simple, yet cultivating and there really is a moral message. It's a short film, only an hour and fifteen minutes, so give it a shot. Overall 3.5/4 Grade = B+

A sentimental but powerful film with more memorable moments and classic one liners than you can shake a stick at. Undoubtedly ranks among the greatest westerns to ever come out of Hollywood.

Before 'Unforgiven' there was 'the Oxbow Incident'. Fonda at his best here with wonderful supporting role from a young Harry Morgan (Mash). This is a dark anding thoughtful movie.
