Despite some unlikely plot elements - the inutility of police officers, for example, that despite all the subtle clues can't find the real "criminal" -, this film is a tense, dark and very uncomfortable thriller, thanks to, particularly, Luis Tosar's chilling and haunting performance. His cold and inhumane psychopath, incapable of feeling happiness, is the one of the major highlights in this horror movie; intensified by Balagueró's objective and suspenseful direction. The ending is all the more unpleasant, leaving a sour taste in the mouth. Recommended.

not very often that the bad guy wins. because even if they catch him after the things he's done, he's won. messed up movie. beautifully shot, good acting. the biggest pitfall is your not very connected to the victim, it leaves you not really caring too much for the main character (the bad guy) or the the girl he is torturing.

Cesar is not your stereotypical psychopath, well he is, but not in the modern hollywood sense. or starters he looks like a cleaner cut version of Trevor from GTA5. He is however, not overtly agressive or odd. On the surface he is a friendly guy who would do anything for anyone. Below the surface he is a depressed and sinister man, incapable of feeling happiness, who only has one purpose in life - to make others as miserable as him. At the apartments he works in, there is a girl called Clara who he desperately wants to make miserable. To do this he sets up a manner of nasty surprises for her. Although this sounds like a horror, it isn't really. It is a pure Hitchcock style thriller, with a couple of small twists. I immensely enjoyed it.
