Slacker (1990)

Austin, Texas, is an Eden for the young and unambitious, from the enthusiastically eccentric to the dangerously apathetic. Here, the nobly lazy can eschew responsibility in favor of nursing their esoteric obsessions. The locals include a backseat philosopher who passionately expounds on his dream theories to a seemingly comatose cabbie, a young woman who tries to hawk Madonna's Pap test to anyone who will listen and a kindly old anarchist looking for recruits.

Another interesting character study that hurts only from the quality of equipment used to film. I am reminded of the taste of chicken tenders and boscoe sticks from George's Cafe every time I see it because of eating them when I watched it the first time.

A slick film that delivers such concrete observations, one could be led to believe that there is a stalker following these people around. The film is not only holds a message (our slacker generation is capable of great things) but can be viewed as a freewrite by Linklater, a contemplative man.

The really interesting thing about this movie is that it has absolutely no plot. The best way to describe it is a movie that is about the day in the life of a town. Genius concept and the fact that it was made with a bunch of no names for roughly $40,000 is awesome. I love this flick.
