Slacker (1990)

Austin, Texas, is an Eden for the young and unambitious, from the enthusiastically eccentric to the dangerously apathetic. Here, the nobly lazy can eschew responsibility in favor of nursing their esoteric obsessions. The locals include a backseat philosopher who passionately expounds on his dream theories to a seemingly comatose cabbie, a young woman who tries to hawk Madonna's Pap test to anyone who will listen and a kindly old anarchist looking for recruits.

Refreshingly plotless (though not everyone may find that as refreshing as I) with some genuinely funny dialogue.

Not gonna lie, this movie is weird. But at the same time it's possibly one of the greatest films ever made. The dialogue is incredible accompanied by stellar cinematography. Richard Linklater is a hell of a director. This plotless 90's view of life in Austin, Texas is universal artistic realism. Not looking to tell a story, but rather a paint a picture of life.

A disjointed film that's much more than a series of shorts.

Linkleter's first feature shows up how generic and corporate "indie" cinema has become.
