Slacker (1990)

Austin, Texas, is an Eden for the young and unambitious, from the enthusiastically eccentric to the dangerously apathetic. Here, the nobly lazy can eschew responsibility in favor of nursing their esoteric obsessions. The locals include a backseat philosopher who passionately expounds on his dream theories to a seemingly comatose cabbie, a young woman who tries to hawk Madonna's Pap test to anyone who will listen and a kindly old anarchist looking for recruits.

Filmed in Austin! Linklater cast Austin natives for this interesting character study of the smartest, dumbest, drunkest, most philosophical and most political people in the city. It captures the essence of Austin at its roots and indulges in the problems of everyday people struggling to get by.

Another throught provoking masterpiece which straddles that wonderful time between the late 80's and early 90's. For anyone who grew up during these strange days, it's a must view.

probably the best no budget film ever. Madonna's smear. Nice. Read Coupland's Generation X, watch this then listen to Nevermind and it'll all make sense...

The really interesting thing about this movie is that it has absolutely no plot. The best way to describe it is a movie that is about the day in the life of a town. Genius concept and the fact that it was made with a bunch of no names for roughly $40,000 is awesome. I love this flick.
