Shiraz: A Romance of India (1928)

A historical romance set in the Mughal Empire. A potter's son falls for the foundling girl he was raised alongside, unaware she carries royal blood. The crowd scenes and the location work in this film are a real marvel, and there is great tenderness to its final act.

One of the last great silent films from India that despite British control this is very Indian for all the right reasons. The story of a princess who is saved from bandits & by a local townsman whose son falls in love with her. Sadly she is taken by bandits & ends up in a castle with a prince who she falls in love with. The son never gives up & for 18 years does all he can to see her but sadly she dies & he begins to grow blind & takes refuge in make models. He makes the model for an amazing building that ends up being the Taj Mahal. It's an impressive film that is great to watch and thoroughly entertaining.
