The first film in the Samurai Trilogy that tells of the greatest swordsman of all. This movie is simply a masterpiece of Samurai and Japanese cinema. Chronicles the rise of Takezo from hoodlum to Samurai and continues to become the legend in parts 2 and 3. Must see if you like Japanese culture or the history of the Samurai.

Aggressively plunging into a rich story and never relenting, Hiroshi Inagaki's Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto provides the same snappy pacing and riveting battle sequences that made Akira Kurosawa legendary.

Excellent samurai film that sets up an excellent trilogy. The skilled direction and strong script, however, are overshaddowed by the powerhouse performance given by one of the greatest actors in history, Toshiro Mifune.

An epic, passionately crafted samurai / love story. Mifune is always fantastic, but it's refreshing to see him play an even more serious role. Inagaki begins his samurai trilogy with a tender but strong hand.
