My favorite adaptation of the play. The characters were cast very well. I first saw it in a movie theater in Coral Gables, FL when it was released, and I still could watch it over and over again.

Zeffirelli's brilliant direction of the star crossed lovers moved me to tears several times growing up ... a phenomenal film that includes a young Michael York as Tybalt.

This was one of my all time favourite movies. I remember I almost had the whole film memorized. I watched this film at least 5 times and this was before videos. The music was wonderful and the costumes a feast for the eyes.

The STANDARD in which all film versions of this play or any Shakespeare film in general is measured. Zeffirelli, who started as a costume designer for stage, seems to paint visuals on film.
