The Good German (2006)

An American journalist arrives in Berlin just after the end of World War Two. He becomes involved in a murder mystery surrounding a dead GI who washes up at a lakeside mansion during the Potsdam negotiations between the Allied powers. Soon his investigation connects with his search for his married pre-war German lover.

Gah! I wanted to pummel Tobey Maguire in this movie! What a tool. Clooney and Blanchett carry this solid Soderbergh homage to those old war movies. Nothing terribly unique but worth a watch just for the look and feel.

One of the better Clooney roles. Cate Blanchett was great. Even Tobey Maguire was well cast. Problem I have with both Clooney and Maguire is whether they are playing super heroes, Jockeys, or Doctors they are always the same character.

The Good German is one of the best returns to the 1940s style of film-noir. It has the right mix of action, adventure, mystery, Intrigue & romance. The Good German hypnotizes you with it's blend of murder & mystery, action & Intrigue, Romance & lies. You'll never stop guessing who's behind what, and most importantly who you can trust.
