The Good German (2006)

An American journalist arrives in Berlin just after the end of World War Two. He becomes involved in a murder mystery surrounding a dead GI who washes up at a lakeside mansion during the Potsdam negotiations between the Allied powers. Soon his investigation connects with his search for his married pre-war German lover.

Excellent movie. Not only technically refined, but also very complex intellectually and emotionally.

Gah! I wanted to pummel Tobey Maguire in this movie! What a tool. Clooney and Blanchett carry this solid Soderbergh homage to those old war movies. Nothing terribly unique but worth a watch just for the look and feel.

A very interesting neo-noir with enough twists and turns to keep the viewer guessing and occupied. It doesn't hurt that Cate Blanchett is an awesome German prostitute.

Wasn't suspenseful or shocking and none of the actors in this film acted like the actors in the kind of movies this one was trying to portray but the movie was very cleverly made. You can tell that Soderbergh spent a lot of time watching movies from the '40's. Everything from the lighting to the camera angles was spot on.
