Most would argue there are greater films by Hitchcock. This one however, always fascinated me. It is not only technically adept, it also brilliantly exposes the macabre side of human beings. I also happen to have met people in my life, that would probably have tried a stunt like this, if there had been enough incentive to do so.

10 out of 10: A smart thriller with terrific acting and directing.

A direction lesson for anyone interested! The non-stop filming and the camera moves work perfectly and James Stewart is charming as always, I was sorry it didn't last longer...

Two probably homosexual intellectual socialites commit the perfect murder and have a dinner party to commemorate, but are foiled by an equally intellectual former professor in this amazing real-time Hitchcock film, his first color, that appears with superior editing to film it in one continuous shot. The ethics of eugenics and Nietzsche are put to the test, and good guy Jimmy Stewart thwarts the uppity villains

A stunning piece of cinema that is utterly captivating from its opening scene. Can only imagine the impact this had on audiences in the 1940s. Hitchcock doesn't get much chance to flex his skills in this drama contained in one room but at the times he does the film sparkles more than ever. Genius.
