This is a fine film. Way underrated by critics--I believe because a first unfinished cut was shown at Toronto festival--critics reviewed before film was done. This is an incredible, Oscar-worthy performance in the kind of film that Hollywood doesn't make anymore. It's important that people support this kind of art or there will only be superhero movies (I love them too, but I love both). A+ in my book.

I came into this movie with an open mind. The message of this movie is so beautiful and well done. Denzel played his character so well and the emotions he portrayed were excellent. Please, please, please pay attention to the movies messages. You have to really pay attention to the overall message and what the premise of the story is. Go into the movie with an open mind and you come out amazed at what Denzel can do with a character.

This was a hard film to watch. Roman J. Israel, Esq. is a savant who has no skills in dealing with the public but knows the law and each and every section of the Code of Civil Procedure, Evidence Code, Penal Code, etc., by heart. It kept my interest and I liked it. It is not one of Denzel's best movies but add in Colin Farrell who becomes his mentor, as a big time lawyer who recognizes Denzel's talent and makes the best of it, and it makes it all worthwhile.
