Roman (2006)

Roman (Lucky McKee) is a lonely young man who yearns to find love, happiness and companionship. Tormented by his ungrateful co-workers and trapped in a life of tedium as a welder in a local factory, Roman's one pleasure is his obsession with the elusive beauty (Kristen Bell) who lives in another apartment in his building complex. When a chance encounter with the young woman goes horribly wrong, a moment of frenzied desperation triggers a chilling turn of events leading to the girl's murder. As he teeters between deranged fantasy and cold reality, Roman's struggle to hide his grisly secret is further complicated by an eccentric neighbor named Eva (Nectar Rose) who develops an unlikely attraction to Roman and forces herself into his dark and tortured world.

Well worth a watch. All about Romans obsession with a neighbour. Strange film but def good. Staring Lucky Mckee who does a convincing job acting as Roman whose a bit of a recluse and oddball.

What can I say about Lucky Mckee? He has a fantastic, grotesque imagination. Angela Bettis does a hell of a job behind the camera (movie is very low budget, and it shows... but in a good way) Start with May and then if you like that flick then check out Roman. It is like May, but much darker and less funny.

The lo-rent version of May. I dig how dark Lucky's material is, but you can't get around the fact that this movie really didn't get very good until the last 1/2 hour. Wildly inconsistent cinematography and pacing held back a film that had alot going for it.

Interesting companion piece to Lucky McKee's "May" (with Angela Bettis and McKee switching roles as director and actor) but it sadly pales in comparison. Solid acting from McKee but it's quite apparent that Angela Bettis has never directed before (though the talent is there) and it's disappointing that McKee couldn't write a more interesting screenplay (noting much happens in this overlong and drawn out character study). On the positive side, it at least possesses intelligence and is tasteful, not going for exploitation but subtle chills... but it sadly fails at what it tries to achieve... Not a complete waste of time but nothing too memorable either...
