A chagrin-filled tragedy following the deterioration of youth and the worthlessness of wealth in forging meaningful relationships . Significant because Leigh offers an emotional and frighteningly calculated portrait of the somber main character, seemingly drawing on her own experience in later life as a complex and talented actress, prized in many ways only for the fresh beauty of youth. Ringing with the loneliness of suffering within while grappling with the shifting external world, Leigh offers us a view into the world of a beautiful, aging, and prideful female.

Not Tennessee Williams' best, but a haunting, sad, and deeply moving story. Vivien Leigh and Lotte Lenya are brilliant. Warren Beatty is charming, if a completely miscast. Overall, a thought provoking piece of art. Retrospect is gained if the viewer is aware of both Williams' and Leigh's real lives - it makes the journey all the more devastating.

Such a dark tale..acting was good from all. I don't have a good feeling after watching this film cos it feels too real. I have yet to catch the 2003 version-looks promising with Oli in. Even though, this is not a great film (it was slammed hard by critics at that time-so bad that Beatty refused to act for a year coz he felt really bad), at least appreciate the excellent performances by the cast;especially the oh-so-charming Warren Beatty.

I kept waitng for her to declare "Well I will just think about this tomorrw." Great performances though, and yes, it's depressing.

Of course the classics are the best and pairing Vivian Leigh with Warren Beatty? Cougarlicious! Drama, romance, deceit.....sweet!
