I was on the side of the court wits rather than our hero's.

I would have enjoyed the film a bit more if I spoke better French because so much of the film is based around the use of word-play and wit. However, even for those who speak no French, this is still an excellent and entertaining movie.

A delightful comedy drama that's a deconstruction of a life in the Court of Louis XVI, "Ridicule" highlights the power of charisma over that of idealism, and how caustic wit can corrode the soul (cough.. cough...). "Ridicule" is a more subtle, less melodramatic journey through the terrain of "Dangerous Liaisons", delightfully played by all, and sumptuously shot as the most prestigious costume drama. Highly recommended.

I adore this movie; its wit and humour are wonderful, and the sets/costumes are beautiful! More Charles Berling/Judith Godreche now, please! And of course the fabulous Fanny Ardent and Jean Rochefort!!
