An extremely entertaining film, reminiscent in some ways of THE GREAT DICTATOR. Chaplin (as a bankrupt, deposed monarch) comes to New York and tries to make sense of the everyday world. Soon, he befriends a 10 year old Communist, whose parents are in trouble due to witch hunts. Wonderfully funny until the final, heart-wrenching scene.

Chaplin's A KING IN NEW YORK is the most honest and realistic depiction of America ever produced for the silver screen. It benefits from a brilliant screenplay and a Chaplin on his game.

A pretty interesting film actually (yet largely due to the historical context in which it was created). It's caustic, but at least it's not sentimental and as such dates a bit better than some of his more famed films. I imagine this is one of his "least seen" movies.

I really really liked this movie. It is a very funny and biting satire of all things about 50's America. As a movie buff I especially like the part about widescreen movies. Other brilliant parts were the hidden camera dinner and the communist kid. Chaplin's last starring role, and he could still do it very well. This movie does not have as much physical comedy (as he was about 70 at the time), but there is some great stuff, especially the finger-in-the-fire hose scene. Highly recommended.

The son of Charles Chaplin plays a magnificent act in this film. I thought it was a great picture including some funny scenes and some political views as well. Even when he talks, Chaplin can be a good performer. This film is underrated, i think you should give it a look if you haven't seen it yet!
