Two young men, one rich, one middle class, both in love with the same woman, become US Air Corps fighter pilots and, eventually, heroic flying aces during World War I. Devoted best friends, their mutual love of the girl eventually threatens their bond. Meanwhile, a hometown girl who's the lovestruck lifelong next door neighbor of one of them pines away.

Bought a copy of this film but had never seen it... The first film to win an Oscar for best picture, and it is very well deserved. What a spectacular and groundbreaking film!

This first ever Best Picture winner is excellant. Very impressive effects of it's time. The story isn't the greatest and or all that well told, but the production values are excellant. Even it's long run time it never gets boring.

I plan to review all of the films that won Best Picture. it's best to start at the beginning so here it is. I really have never been able to not be bored during silent films. the only exception is the 1925 version of the Phantom of the Opera. this movie really did bore me. that is simply because I'm used to the movies of later eras. this is not to say that I could not appreciate this film and the achievement that it was. there were some decent special effects (for 1927). it was all in all a decent film that I could appreciate but it still bored me. Final Verdict: I dunno I can't think of anything to replace this with. I'll say yes then.

What you see is what you get! Since it was made in 1927, so of course no fancy computer special effect. It was real flying with no green screen! The actors had to learn to fly airplanes and then they would have camera attached to their airplanes. It's a dangerous movies to make. The director was a former pilot and he had to choreographed every flying scenes carefully and the results were amazing! The battle scenes on the ground was also amazing and I'm sure it was so extremely difficult to choreograph everything and there were so many things happened at once! The movie was quite dark and risque for it's time and now it's one of the best silent movies I've ever seen. Not only that, it's now become one of my favorite movies of all time. This movie was the first one to win academy award.
