So far my favorite Garbo movie (I haven't seen them all...yet). Wonderful.

Amazing in every sense of the word. The chemistry between Garbo and Gilbert is evident. Highlight: the very last shot - Christina is sailing away on a ship. Now that her love is lost, nothing will stop her of fulfilling her mission.

Directed by Rouben Mamoulian Starring Greta Garbo, John Gilbert, Ian Keith, Lewis Stone, Elizabeth Young, C. Aubrey Smith, Reginald Owen Garbo had never been so cunningly beautiful than in ?Queen Christina,? a tale of a Swedish queen who gave up her throne for love?s sake. Whether a sovereign ruler in court or a cross-dressing rogue, Garbo exuded beauty and charm that would melt the snowcaps of Sweden. The script a bit formal and trite but once delivered by Garbo became immortal. Gilbert looked quirky as a leading man and gave these funny facial expressions but his scene with Garbo in the tavern is a classic. Best Scene: The Queen?s farewell. QUOTE: ?Let me look at you once more. And so let me remember you with love and loyalty ?till memory is no more. God bless you. Farewell.?
