as good as a german expressionist film, but it's made in england.

Hitchcock's third film is his first suspense movie, and thus the first real "Hitchcock" movie.

Ivor Novello gives a great performance as ths sinister lodger who has a few secrets. Bad thing when women are being murdered outside.

A decent silent movie. I wish my copy of it wasn't so grainy, but it was still well done. The mob at the end was much better done than anything Universal did in its Frankenstein series.

This early Hitchcock silent movie has been given a bit of a polish and an excellent musical score added to give it a really atmospheric feel. It's an intriguing film as well and in usual Hitchcock fashion it all builds up to a tense finale.
