great debut film for a fantastic film maker....dvd score is horrible though

10 out of 10: With chilling music, amazing direction, and a fantastic performance from Igor Novello, The Lodger truly is Hitchcock's early masterpiece.

Even with it being a silent film, my attention was kept on it throughout. Hitchcock's style for future movies shines through in many spots throughout the film.

An absolute masterpiece. Novello is superb as the creepy lodger...his perfromance is so full of suspence, you're constantly guessing if he is the real "avenger" or not. This is mainly due to the fantastic direction from Hitchcock and the wonderfully atmospheric score. Loved it!
