Despite some stunning sequences and photography, this is definately not one of Hitchcock's best films. Personally I feel it could have been cut quite a bit as certain sequences seem to drag. Having said that, this film contains some of the subtlest acting in a silent film that I have seen - certain scenes with the parents come to mind. Overall satisfying but slightly overrated if you ask me.

An absolute masterpiece. Novello is superb as the creepy lodger...his perfromance is so full of suspence, you're constantly guessing if he is the real "avenger" or not. This is mainly due to the fantastic direction from Hitchcock and the wonderfully atmospheric score. Loved it!

Nice plot. Sexual chocolate meets nice big hands, Novello is aristo-hot!

Though the story has been remade many times, Hitchcock's silent version (his third work) holds up well, bearing the director's distinctive vision; he said his career relly began with that picture

I haven't seen alot of silent films, but this really impressed me. The music is excellent and the story keeps u hooked. Possibly one of Hitchcock's best.
