Prick Up Your Ears (1987)

When the young, attractive Joe Orton meets the older, more introverted Kenneth Halliwell at drama school, he befriends the kindred spirit and they start an affair. As Orton becomes more comfortable with his sexuality and starts to find success with his writing, Halliwell becomes increasingly alienated and jealous, ultimately tapping into a dangerous rage.

This movie was great. I have to say I didn't know anything about Orton beforehand, but now I'm interested. Also, Gary Oldman and Doc Ock making out. Not really something I was expecting.

wow i have just seen this movie 4 the 1st time n think that this is a good movie 2 watch...this has got a good cast of actors/actressess throughout this movie...i think that gary oldman is brilliant throughout this movie...i think that the director of this Art House & International, Drama, Comedy movie had done a good job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect throughout this movie...its a good movie 2 see..its an old classics movie but its still got a good cast of actors/actressess throughout this movie..i think that Alfred Molina (who plays doctor octopus in spider-man 2) is a great actor n hes done some good movies throughout

Perusing the Gary Oldman canon. Very well done. Biting script, intelligent direction, and two outstanding lead performances by Oldman and Alfred Molina (probably and unfortunately best known for playing Doctor Octopus). The film tells the story of British playwright Joe Orton, who scripted "Loot" and "What the Butler Saw" among others. In October 1967, Orton was bludgeoned to death with a hammer by his longtime lover Kenneth Halliwell (Molina). Definitely worth watching for all theatre people and for Oldman/Molina fans.

Absolutely brilliant. My favourite film with my favourite actor... GaryO. I have Joe Orton's plays and his journal as well as the biography. That background made the movie even more enjoyable.

I've not liked Gary Oldman in anything since - but he was great in this.
