One of the most moving films of recent years. Imelda Staunton is unforgettable as the eponymous little lady who helps out girls in trouble. One of the finest British films in some years.

I was in two minds whether to watch this film or not. But I am so glad I did. It's fantastic. Set in the 1950's, it concentrates on the disturbing subject of abortions. we look in on the life of Vera Drake, a lady who looks after everyone. But somehow ends up in jail, when a girl falls ill after one of her treatments. It's an eye opener and some will find it shocking.

My favorite movie of recent years. Incomparable performances, amazing direction, sets so realistic you feel like you're there, and so much FEELING coming out of everyone's eyes and hearts. The subject is tragic and unresolvable and this movie demonstrates exactly why. Supposedly only the actress playing Vera and director Mike Leigh knew Vera's "secret," so the shock on everyone else's faces was genuine. Mike Leigh is an eclectic writer/director and here he was at his very best. Do not miss this movie.
