Prevenge is nasty without being funny, Lowe peculiarly flat-toned: still, perhaps it's good to have it so graphically demonstrated that not every mama's a madonna.

There's also some catharsis to be had in seeing a woman in power take charge and show some truly terrible men who the real boss is.

Brilliant directorial debut from Alice Lowe. Where Prevenge's production values may be occasionally rough around the edges, it makes up for it with originality, bleak satire, a very British brand of dark wit and truly shocking scenes of gore. The fact that this was written in merely 2 weeks, filmed in 11 days whilst Alice was also genuinely pregnant herself, makes it even more impressive. Her name will be a prominent one in the years to come.
