Chilling, perfect atmospheric fusion of gumshoe mystery and horror...suffused the with the sodden but beautiful voudou vibe of New Orleans. Rourke is at his best here, driven, haunted...won't spoil the ending but it's a clever twist that if you go back and watch Rourke's performance emerges from his character inexorably. For what it sets out to do this is the most perfect film I can recall.

This movie is so dark and disturbing its great. A great movie for people who enjoy pondering deep meaning, and being challenged to understand and see imagery in a flm.

great movie that draws largely on christopher marlowe's Dr. Faustus according to my texts and context teacher. but i dont really agree .but its a great movie.
