I thoroughly enjoyed this film. A good mixutre of both humour and sadness. This film shows that money really doesn't buy happiness. A great script, and the kind which inspires me as a screenwriter.

Avoided seeing until now because I was sure it wasn't my kind of movie, but I was interested enough in Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, and the actresses in this were perfect. Every scene resonated reality, with power struggles, and building emotions from smoldering to explosion, to realization, to understanding self and others, that it makes you feel great they eventually bonded. Outstanding support acting, especially from the much maligned Dennis Quaid, as the bed hopping ass. The scene where Streep confronts him after learning his nefariousness was a classic. Also, I must say Streep's closing song was so wonderful, it made me wonder why she couldn't come close to that performance in her subsequent forays into song.

Possibly my all-time favorite movie. One-liners abound in this humorous flick about a woman with addiction issues and her very famous mother. Dramatic, funny, and star-filled! Worth your two hours!

Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine both give great performances in this very entertaining and funny satire on Hollywood but most importantly the relationships between mothers and daughters. The supporting cast are solid, the direction is well done and the script (by "Star Wars" star Carrie Fisher, who adapted it from her semi-autobiographical novel) is cleverly written.

A true story, and a damn fine film. Directed by Mike Nichols (Closer, The Graduate). A great film.
