What a beautiful, down to Earth story. Grab the Kleenex and enter a more simple time. Having grown up in the midwest in the 50's I know this is accurate portrayal of a great time in our country's history, Kind and gentle, human and a delight for a Sunday afternoon. Even today's CG spoiled kids will love this one.

Edward G. Robinson is one of the most versatile and brilliant actors of al time, and this film demonstrates that. A very sweet and simple film, wonderfully acted, excellent score. A pleasure from start to finish.

This movie was a vast departure from Robinson's MGM tought-guy roles and one he shined as the star he was. On pare with Grapes of Wrath. Should be a Must See for all college lit students!

One of my favorite Edward G. Robinson movies. He plays a much gentler soul in this one as a farmer in Wisconsin during war time years with a loving wife (also in a more gentle role than typical by Agnes Moorehead) and little girl played ever so charmingly by Margaret O'Brien. A story about the importance of family and community - especially during tough times. Nicely directed by Roy Rowland and screenplay by Dalton Trumbo.

Edward G. Robinson was short in stature but large in personality. He's an underrated actor in my opinion and this role is an example of his range.
