The experimental film has some magic moments, but a few great moments is all I found in a movie that feels long -- but is actually quite short.

The dubious comforts of 'coolness' -- the Audley character's emotional flatness, created, like metamorphic rock, by the pressures of self-awareness, self-loathing and self-regard -- may be the movie's true subject.

There's a larger issue nagging many of these no-budget films about struggling young adults: They assume that all aspiring, rootless artistes are incapable of even rudimentary thought when the opposite is normally the case.
