Loved this movie - made in rural China with (almost) no professional actors, just local people. So it is fresh and real - go rent it! There really are a lot of great movies made in China these days, and all round the world. I wish more North Americans would give them a try. The Crouching Tiger genre is good, but nothing compared to this. I agree with the reviewer who said this is the type of movie Zhang Yi does best.

When Zhang Yimou was Zhang Yimou he was able to make good movies about the real China. Too bad he have lose himself. This movie is very worthed.

Very well told movie of the village. It gave a meaning that there's not only modern cities. But the ones who are still living traditiionly.

The best film of all the great Zhang Yimou movies - a poetic masterpiece. Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival as best film. The children are wonderful and the music score simply brilliant. Do not miss this one!
