Nicole Kidman leads a great cast in this truly unique film. The cast includes alot of familiar faces from film (James Caan, Paul Bettany, Stellan Skarsgard) as well as a couple television actors (Lost's Jeremy Davies, Damages' Zelijiko Ivanek) and all these actors are perfectly cast. The most notable aspect of the film is it's bare bones set which makes it feel very much like a play, the set is in clear contrast to the complex themes the story presents about human nature. Kidman is wonderful in the leading role and Ivanek, Skarsgard and Bettany are also standouts. The narration by John Hurt also works quite well. Definitely not for those that don't like long films or those with dark subject matter but a must see for any lover of film. The characters and themes are so rich that Dogville's story feels like it could have easily been lifted from a classic novel. Truly a brilliant, unique film.

one of the greatest movies I've seen my whole life. 3 hours worth every second. a one-of-a-kind film that makes you reevaluate whats good and whats bad and leaves you with so many emotions and sometimes helps you through it. I envy the people who haven't watched it yet, cause they have one of the most especiall 3 hours of their life to come.

In my opinion, this is one of the greatest films of all time! Painful and bleak, yet powerful and life-changing, it grips you deep in the pit of your stomach, and causes you to re-evaluate your entire view of human nature. It probes the ideas of groupthink- Standing by while things happen that you know in your heart are wrong, yet doing nothing to stop them....revenge- Violence and injustice fueling further violence and injustice....arrogance - Refusing to hold others to the same ethical standards that you hold yourself to, in the name of moral superiority. These dilemmas only scratch the surface of the depths of this film. Only by seeing these shortcomings of human nature in full, garish clarity can we truly strive to overcome them when they're presented in our everyday lives.
