pure mental man. makes you laugh, think n takes you back to your school days. Scotland has not evolved since the 70's.

Brutal coming of age story set in Glasgow in the 70's. Although the acting was inconsistent at times for the most part it was very good, and in particular the lead character played by Gregg Forrest. It was hard not to feel sorry for a root for the boy as he grows into a man, even though he causes hell through his extreme actions. This movie not only focuses on what it was like growing up in Scotland, it depicts the effects a broken home life had on kids in that time, and any time really, who are really only looking for a place where they can find an identity. I had no problem with the length at just over 2 hours, but I thought there were a couple questionable scenes that could have been cut. The ending was very interesting, and is hard to gauge whether the Director was going for happy, sad, or indifferent. Overall very good film.
