Famed movie director Paul Robaix breaks with tradition by not casting his actress-comedienne wife, Lucy Dell, in his latest film production, a version of Madame Butterfly. Undaunted, the resourceful Lucy wings her way to Tokyo and, masquerading as a Japanese geisha, lands the coveted role from her unsuspecting husband! But in front of the cameras (and behind the pancake makeup), Lucy faces greater challenges: her lecherous leading man - and a husband who is beginning to realize that his talented new "discovery" seems vaguely familiar...

Before Memoirs of a geisha, there's My Geisha. This movie is wickedly funny. Its funny how Ms. MacLaine is learning to become a Geisha. I recommend this movie.

I love Shirley MacLaine. She was and still is amazing. This was a cute movie and old movies like this just boost my mood. :)

An excellent movie that is both a touching romance between a married couple and a sympathetic homage to Japanese culture well before that became fashionable. Both MacLaine and Montand give stellar performances. There is never a false note as the ingenious but straightforward plot moves quickly along and reaches a conclusion that is emotionally satisfying without being obvious. The journey is enhanced by superb location shots and the background story and music of Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly.

This is the innovator of those movies where girls play guys, guys play girls or people pretend to be someone they aren't to get into school, a club, a job etc. In My Geisha, Shirley MacLaine plays Lucy, a famous American movie star with a director husband. She wants the lead in his portrayal of Madame Butterfly but he wants to hire a Japanese lead. Lucy, along with a friend concoct a scheme to transform her into the Japanese lead. Chaos ensues. Another one of my favourite movies.
