"Mr. Jones" does have some things to savor. Director Mike Figgis, who made "Stormy Monday" and "Internal Affairs," has a distinctive, atmospheric touch. There's something memorably restless about Gere's performance. He never stops. Olin gives her white-uniformed, statistics-spouting, let's-work-together role an off-center appeal. And there are likable supporting performances from Delroy Lindo, as a construction worker who befriends Gere; Lauren Tom, a hauntingly beautiful but distraught mental patient; and Lisa Malkiewicz, as a bank teller who giddily falls for Gere when he effortlessly calculates accrued interest on his account. But these worthy elements can't completely disguise the conventional medicine we're ultimately being asked to swallow.

Not mentioning the horrible love story and that disastrous happy ending over the roof, on the course of introducing a Manic-Depressive, I was hoping for a little bit more of reality. It is of course not possible to argue why Mr. Jones was like this or that in his Manic states, there are varieties for every patient's symptoms, however the superficial characters of both Dr. Browen and Mr. Jones, ruined it.

An excellent Movie. Great movie for those who are affraid of those who are mentaly ill. For the most part the mentaly ill are self inflicting, and non violent to others. The Movie tries to portray a Bi-polar patient who suffers the all too common effects of high better then life rushes of energy, creativity, and a for many an over inflated sense of doing the impposible. Then only to Plummet into the abyss, or self loathing, death wished, turmoil where many would say "hey just snap out of it", or "cheer up" not fully knowing thats like saying to a man push the baby out already. For anyone who relates just a tiny bit to this movie, there is more hope then a stupid pill and years of therapy. There is nothing wrong with you, except your just unhealthy.
