This is a perfect drama. Richard Dreyfuss is incredible as a composer who must put his dreams aside to care for his pregnant wife and eventually his tragically deaf son. Every life that Mr. Holland touches is a wonderful blend of adolescent crises and Mr. Holland's own development as a human being. The final scene of this movie is quite possibly one of the most heart-wrenchingly beautiful moments in a film I have seen. I highly recommend this to anyone is not a complete idiot.

I watch this film at least once every year. I just finished it again and I have tears streaming down my face. No other movie has that effect on me. Quite simply, my favourite all time movie.

I really liked it. I like music anyway and to see how Mr Holland goes from a night club entertainer who wants his compositions performed to a teacher whose students reflect his character is really great. Like many of the other raters, I cried at various parts of the movie, especially when he sang for his son. And at the end. Tears are streaming down every time I see it. He is appreciated just because he does his thing with his students. A lesson to be learned. Give to others what has been given to you.
