Maniac is a sweetly gruesome slasher flick mixed in with hallucinatory psychopathy and a side of nihilism. These qualities all contribute to its grueling tension and surrealness, to the point of feeling like you're suffering from schizophrenia. It's also a very stylishly directed film, as seen through the eyes of the narrator via the optical perception of the camera. Bottom line: Maniac is a mind-boggling gorefest, and any horror fan would be a fool to miss it.

Maniac is that rare horror remake that completely outclasses its source in every sense. And when you consider how much we love the original, that's really saying something.

loved the way the camera was from the killers view point. although it made me feel like I was missing out on the acting skills of elijah wood. also because it made it feel like u r the killer the sense of fear was a little lost. but at the same time this was all my favourite part. I appreciated the nicely shot scalpings. great movie..

A true throwback to exploitation slasher films with a modern edge. Wood's performance has just enough nuance to give a nod to the original's Joe Spinnell while making it his own. This film is clearly made by those with love for the genre and I thank them for the offering. It is often said "they don't make them like they used to". In this case, it's made exactly like they used to, and that's why I loved it.

Maniac is one of the best slasher films that I have seen in a while, and it's disturbing enough that it will stick with you long after the credits have rolled. It's not what you would expect from the slasher films of today. It dares to do a lot of things differently, and I always love it when a film has the balls to step outside of the norm. The cinematography is superb, the gimmick is an interesting one, the score is tops, the two leads do a fantastic job, the characters/character development is great, and the kills will certainly stay with you (all very memorable). If after the first 7 minutes (an amazing opening) you aren't on board then maybe you should turn it off. Maniac is the rare remake that doesn't just get it right, it also far surpasses the original film it was remaking. I'd say definitely see it!
