L'Eclisse (1962)

Vittoria is a beautiful literary translator living in Rome. After splitting from her writer boyfriend, Riccardo, Vittoria meets Piero, a lively stockbroker, on the hectic floor of the Roman stock exchange. Though Vittoria and Piero begin a relationship, it is not one without difficulties, and their commitment to one another is tested during an eclipse.

I can't get a grip on this 10 scale rating system.

I actually prefer this one to L'Avventura and La Notte, although you should watch all three, of course. Antonioni's sooo good at pretending he is not talking about the obvious -- when he actually is. Elevates the vulgar to the level of the sublime, and the air-fan to a mythic figure. Chosification!!!!

Maybe the most effective use of architectural space I've ever seen in a film -- claustrophobic, divisive, and ending with an apocalyptic collage of images.
