L'Eclisse (1962)

Vittoria is a beautiful literary translator living in Rome. After splitting from her writer boyfriend, Riccardo, Vittoria meets Piero, a lively stockbroker, on the hectic floor of the Roman stock exchange. Though Vittoria and Piero begin a relationship, it is not one without difficulties, and their commitment to one another is tested during an eclipse.

Second favorite Antonioni after L'Avventura. Monica Vitti is amazing yet again in this tale of rich alienated adults in search of love and happiness. The final montage is brilliant as the two characters seem to just disappear into thin air. Antonioni proves yet again why he is truly the best.

I must admit, I read recently somewhere that Antonioni is one of the most difficult to to imitate directors ever and in here, I will say it is true. I was truly mesmerized by this film, it was extremely delicate like Vitti's dress and I found that every thing in this film was soft, it was like cake and it tasted beautiful. The sweet nature was contrasted with the dull environment which in fact was more lively than anything I've seen.

A stunning film, I couldn't possibly begin to explain the depth this film has in ever frame. The final montage is one of the greatest moments in cinema. Another Antonioni masterpiece.
