The perfect companion piece to Old Joy. The site "reverse shot" gives some powerful insight into the films buried associations (especially referring to the film's fascination with duplication and absence of momentum). To say the movie is slow is like calling Napoleon short; its true but is it ever interesting.

Probably my favorite of Van Sant's death trilogy, it is a very easy flowing and peaceful experience. What I love about it the most is the realism. You lose yourself in the character and it's not just a movie with actors anymore, but a very tangible and human set characters. The setting was perfect and gave it such a unique quality of isolation.

If you're looking for character insight, let alone plot exposition... forget about it.

Full of a mad melancholy almost unbearable in its terrible beauty.
