Not sure how accurate to real life this movie is but it tells the story of the Dalai Lama's life. A fascinating story of a young boy who finds himself juggling between growing up & being the spiritual figurehead of Buddhism. Most incredible scene is his meeting with chairman Mao. An enlightening flick all should see!

Amazing movie about the Dalai Lama's early life. It shows how brutal the Chinese were in the take over of Tibet. Scorsese's least known masterpiece. Must watch for all.

this is a movie that is close to my heart, as a student of tibetan buddhist studies I have a profound love of tibetan culture, this film gives a good perspective. Great background on the early days of the 14th Dalai Lama, and his struggles with embracing modern thought, and liberating his people from a terrible threat. Must see. Very touching, spiritually uplifting film. Om mani padme hum, long live His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, om tadyata gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svha...FREE TIBET!!!!

Oh my god. Who'd have thought Scorsese would have made a filjm that had so much weight and compassion in it's story telling. This isn't a film I watch a lot because it is very powerful and indeed sad. It's lyrical to the point of poetry and actually my favourite of all his films as it's so easy to become involved in the story. I think it is a flawless film. There are very few of those. If there was a six star function. This and OldBoy would both get six stars.

Martin scorcese was an excellent choice to direct this film as it could have been done very badly. A very good score aids brilliant cinematography.
