King of Devil's Island (2010)

Norwegian winter, 1915. On the island Bastøy, outside Oslo, a group of young boys aged 11 to 18, are held in an institution for delinquent youth, notorious for its sadistic regime. One day a new boy, Erling, arrives, determined to escape from the island. After a tragic incident, he ends up leading the boys in a violent uprising. When the boys manage to take over the island, 150 soldiers are sent in to restore order.

Snow, wind, crackling ice, cruelty, hunger and a sadistic pedophile. Boys stripped of everything and at the mercy of the elements and the guards. Made me think of "The home of dark butterflies", a finnish equivalent of this. Harsh and grim but I did like it.

A damn fine film. Even though some of the events could be seen as typical prison-film clichés, they are handled in such a way that they feel organic and natural. Plus, the cast is pretty good supported by Stellan Skarsgard as the director of the facility.

Wow inspiring and maddening to watch. Acting is very well done and great plot. Hero and main villain in this movie is amazing to watch.

Ok. I am convinced..Stellan Skarsgard + movie role = quality film! This based-on-a-true-story film is top-notch good. This is what great filmmaking is all about. A magnificent, and unforgettable film. Every scene is perfect, each actor's performance is spot on. If this movie doesn't touch you on some level, I don't know what will. My ONLY complaint is there was no follow up summary, but I guess we can all google things these days..so I forgive them...
