Fantastic,fantastic,does seem slightly dated....but remove that and it is beautiful.Would have loved to have seen it in an actual theatre

olivier is the perfect Lear - old, foolish, vulnerable and childish. The cast are excellent - there is no better TV adaptation than this version of Lear

Olivier is brilliant -as always- as King Lear, with Diana Rigg being the "next best thing" as Regan. But John Hurt's performane is perfect. I think he belongs to a very small number of actors, who are capable of making the viewer understand exactly what their characters are thinking and feeling. His Fool is one of the most sincere and beautiful performances I have ever seen.

The acting is great, but the way it is filmed reminds me of one of those cheesy soap operas.
