Christopher and His Kind (2011)

In 1931, budding author Christopher Isherwood goes to Berlin at the invitation of his friend W. H. Auden for the gay sex that abounds in the city. He falls for street sweeper Heinz, paying medical bills for the boy's sickly mother, to the disapproval of her other son, Nazi Gerhardt.

Admittedly I really only wanted to see this because I love Matt Smith, but I was pretty impressed. It's a bit slow moving, but overall quite interesting, and the whole cast is compelling. With better production quality I would have enjoyed it more, but considering it's a BBC production it's definitely worth seeing.

Loved this so much. Fabulous glimpse into a bygone era. Had me laughing one minute and crying the next. After it finished it made me realise momentarily at just how fleeting life truly is.

As one of the reviewers mentioned below, I had no idea how progressive pre-nazi Berlin was. What a shame Hitler arrived on the scene to smother it all.

It might be a TV film, but it's really nice. I still get astonished by the harm Nazis caused. And, dunno, but I found very moving that moment when Christopher and the inn women met.
