Killer's Kiss (1955)

Davey Gordon, a New York City boxer at the end of his career, falls for dancer Gloria Price. However, their budding relationship is interrupted by Gloria's violent boss, Vincent Rapallo, who has eyes for Gloria. The two decide to skip town, but before they can, Vincent and his thugs abduct Gloria, and Davey is forced to search for her among the most squalid corners of the city, with his enemy hiding in the shadows.

Terrific story by Kubrick...42nd St., Grand Concourse, and rooftop chase and climactic axe battle scenes were phenomenal!!

I was quite surprised by this one. I didn't expect much from one of Kubrick's first, and only 67 minutes at that. The music was great, and the plot isn't terribly interesting but is certainly made up for by the shots, cinematography and classic locations that have now been ripped off by people with no imagination. This was definitely better than Lolita; I might actually like it more than Paths of Glory...

"killer's kiss" is as visually stunning as it is intense. the style of kubrick's story telling is so unique and refreshing. it's not just one of the director's best, it's one of the best noir's in general.

Kubrick's "first" movie is a boxing noir that contains some excellent cinematography and one tense ending brawl.
