This is so fucked up....but I love it. Chris and his father hire a professional killer named Joe to kill their wife/mother so they can collect her life insurance. When they can't pay the fee, the killer takes Chris' sister Dottie as temporary payment until they can come up with the cash. The resulting film is a love triangle between Dottie, Chris, and Joe as Chris struggles with his feelings of guilt over his involvement in the affair, it's also about the loss of innocence. An absolutely extraordinary film with superb performances from Emilie Hersche (in my opinion the standout actor here) as Chris, Matthew McConaughey as Killer Joe and Juno Temple as Dottie, the only innocent character in the film (she generously offers up some full frontal nudity for us). The film slowly grabs you by the neck of your shirt and tightens its grasp until you can't breathe. it's simply fantastic, that said it's not all that enjoyable due to it's dark nature but it still makes for a terrific watch.

This is real film noir--not the private eye low key lighting kind but a real dip in the nasty stew of human greed and concupiscence. Hence, not for everyone. The actors are wonderful at revealing how naivete can turn amoral and good manners mask perversity and violence--and all regarded as part of the human comedy.. The cast is pitch perfect. A special cheer for McConaughey and for Gina Gershon and Emile Hirsch.

Credit goes to the actors (especially Gershon) for giving almost as good as they get in seriously demanding roles, and to Friedkin for having what it takes – guts, chops and a refreshing lack of artistic caution – to bring things thundering home.

SO. AMAZING. It's brutal to a fault, but also very funny and Matthew McConaughey is excellent. Get ready for one of the most dysfunctional families in the world!

Sto iniziando a capire il comune denominatore di tanti film che ho apprezzato in questo periodo: famiglie marce, persone schifose, totale assenza di morale, bonus se appare anche un po' di malattia/ritardo mentale, per rendere il tutto più scomodo e malato. Killer Joe, da questo punto di vista, è esemplare. I personaggi sono splendidi, la trama ti fa sorridere più di una volta pensando a come si ribaltano le situazioni, e poi vabbè, il finale è da ulcera, non ricordo di aver visto nulla di tanto registicamente sadico quanto il finale di questo film. Bello.
