Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten (2007)

As the front man of the Clash from 1977 onwards, Joe Strummer changed people's lives forever. Four years after his death, his influence reaches out around the world, more strongly now than ever before. In "The Future Is Unwritten", from British film director Julien Temple, Joe Strummer is revealed not just as a legend or musician, but as a true communicator of our times. Drawing on both a shared punk history and the close personal friendship which developed over the last years of Joe's life, Julien Temple's film is a celebration of Joe Strummer - before, during and after the Clash.

i was excited to see the 'future is unwritten' grafitti on the parking structure next to my building -- someone else was anticipating this film's arrival from europe as much as i was! i love joe, so it's easy to please me with a posthumous film about him, especially when he himself is narrating half of it. lots of new footage here, of him as a boy, as a hippie, and some rough footage of the 101'ers. great stories from people who knew him his whole life, though i could do without a few of the big-name stars who don't add much to the story. i wonder why paul simonon is not present? i missed him. but it was neat to see joe's widow, first wife, and daughter in the film. Temple uses some cool cartoons and stock footage to supplement just as he did with the sex pistols film. but the greatest treasure to me are the audio clips from joe's radio show, just joe playing the music he enjoys.

A great, great retrospective on a great, GREAT man. It's selfish, but it kills me that I'll never get to see him live and give him a big hug and tell him how much his music made me who I am. His lyrics are every bit as relevant today as they were in 1977. A true rebel and my personal hero. Rest in peace sir.

A worthy documentary on the late " Punk War Lord," Joe Strummer. Obscure/never-before-seen footage of Strummer's childhood/adolescence is incorporated into the chronicling of this "mouthy little git's" transformation . This of course is exciting to any Clash fan. The movie assumes the viewer has ample background on the band so it may be a bit daunting to a novice. The celebrity commentary and anecdotes of his 101ers/Mescaleros band mates are very interesting. Temple makes a balanced and very human documentary, showing both Strummer's shortcomings as well as his accomplishments and deeds. Although this documentary is thoroughly enjoyable and inventive, it falls a bit short of Don Letts' " Let's Rock Again."

This has the be one of the best documentary ive seen in a very long time. It does a wonderful job on showing the life and death of a punk rock warlord Joe Strummer. Rare footage of the clash and Joe Strummer in their early hay days are outstanding. Makes you feel like your part of the band. Has great memories told by well know actors and band mates. This movie keeps joes Spirit alive. It wonderful how he influenced so many. Punk would not be the same with out the clash and Joe Strummer
